Seeds may never ripen

Art - Claire Martin, May 2022

Seeds may never ripen
yet they spread,
        roots sense the sunshine
        so they wake,
              shoots won’t always bloom
               and still they stretch,
                     buds come to grow
                      and fade someday.
                             Blossoms launch as
                             sovereigns of the light!
                             They hold no shame
                             when they begin to spend…
                      petals fade and fall
                      with no regrets,
               stems whither
               without fearing ends,
        roots remember
        when it’s time to rest,
till the season comes
to wake again.
